Hola and Buenas Dias from the LCA Development Desk!
~ Cynthia L. Jurgensen / Development Manager
As August zooms by with September right around the corner, I am happy to announce I am well into my 7th month. Joining the LCA team has been a rewarding experience thus far. Working with such a dedicated team that strives to hep Latinos thrive in Central Oregon is a gift. Thank you for your support in our many different endeavors!
Some of you might have seen/read the recent Volunteer Newsletter from Joanne Mina, Volunteer Coordinator, the City of Bend and LCA are partnering up to host a week of welcoming events to celebrate Welcoming America / Welcoming Week.
Welcoming Week is a series of events in our community that brings together immigrants and those born within their countries in a spirit of unity to build strong connections across their communities and affirm the benefits of welcoming everyone. Click here to learn more about Welcoming Week in Bend!
Official kick off date ~ September 13th ~ to be held at the Latino Community Association office in Bend.
Our goal is to reach out to all members of the community, invite them to celebrate the beauty of diversity and to honor our immigrant and refugee community members, all who live, work and raise families in the community (Bend /surrounding areas). Many of the immigrant and Latinx community that we serve, support LCA throughout the year, both financially and with their time. We appreciate them and their hard work! We also want them to be able to attend and enjoy this event. We are celebrating them and all of the other immigrants/refugees who live and work here. Last year, we connected 3,800 Latinos to services– with a budget of $585,979, breaking down the cost to $15 per month per individual.
For Welcoming Week – my goal is to reach out for support from our donor/ volunteer community team to help make this a week to remember and celebrate. Just imagine –> if 100 people donated $10 per person, we would raise $1,000 just like that! Estimated cost to provide food for the events throughout the week - $ 1,500.
Welcoming Week Event schedule:
Friday, September 13th – kickoff event at LCA offices – there will be a food cart available for sale purchases. Non-alcoholic beverages. The Bend City of Police has graciously offered to pay for a DJ for the evening to drive the evening’s energy.
Monday, September 16th – Venga y Conozco (get to know you event) will be held at Bend Parks Recreation Office from 6-8. Anticipated attendance: 100 guests. Currently, we have a commitment from Barrio to supply food for 25. My goal – is to secure commitments from three other local eateries, to round out a spread of delectable appetizers for 100 attendees. Restaurants I have approached > Bethlyn’s Global Fusion, Joolz and Zydeco. Should you know of any establishment that might be interested in donating food for that event – please shout out.
Saturday, September 21 - A celebration for Drivers licenses for all combined with a Know your Rights forum in Bend.
