Join the LCA Board of Directors
Serving on Our Board
The board of directors provides oversight over LCA and is committed to supporting the sustainability and thriving of LCA. Board members perform a variety of duties at board meetings, committee meetings, and/or via email. We encourage active participation and learning, knowing that each person will contribute their unique strengths and skills to support LCA. We will help you to understand your role and responsibilities of being a board member, because active participation is critical to our success. We also ensure our board members build relationships with and are deeply connected to our staff.
We have about six (6) in-person board meetings each year and they take place the 4th Tuesday of the following months from 8 am - 10 am: January, February, April, June, August, and October. We also have a half-day board retreat typically in November. Our board meetings rotate to be in Bend, Redmond, Madras, and Prineville at least once a year. We provide a virtual option to support those who live in more rural areas, have family obligations, or otherwise have barriers to attending meetings in person. We also encourage committees to rotate meetings through the various communities that LCA serves as well and/or to meet virtually. We may have additional virtual board or committee meetings as needed for essential or urgent business.
We ask that board members commit to spending 4 - 8 hours a month for your volunteer board service.
Our Commitment to You
Whether you have or have not served on a nonprofit board in the past, we know that some of what we do will be new to you. We pride ourselves in that many of our board members are new to board service, while others may have specific expertise to support LCA’s operations (e.g. realtors, lawyers, finance, fundraising, nonprofit governance). We will do our best to support you in understanding what it means to be a board member and to perform your duties as a board member. Our goal is to be in partnership with you and learn from your knowledge and experience, while also providing you with any support or training you may need.

“I started volunteering with LCA as our community started emerging from the pandemic to support staff with outreach about vaccine clinics and whatever else they needed support with on a weekly basis. Working with both the community members and the staff was an amazing and connective experience and I appreciated being able to practice my Spanish skills. It was through my volunteer experience that I was able to feel comfortable stepping into a board member role!"
