LCA Job Opportunity: Part-Time Volunteer Coordinator

JOB TITLE: Volunteer Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Community Engagement Manager
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt; PT (with potential for FT)

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, training, coordinating, and supporting volunteers who help LCA provide essential services to immigrant families. This role ensures volunteers are effectively placed, culturally responsive, and well supported so that clients feel heard, respected, and empowered. The Volunteer Coordinator plays a key role in building cross cultural connections and strengthening community engagement.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND CORE COMPETENCIES:

Volunteer Recruitment and Engagement
● Recruit volunteers to support interpretation, translation, advocacy, tax assistance, ESL support, community events, and office services
● Develop partnerships with local schools, universities, employers, faith groups, and community organizations
● Promote volunteer opportunities through outreach, presentations, and communications

Volunteer Screening, Placement, and Onboarding
● Screen and interview prospective volunteers to assess skills, language abilities, and availability
● Match volunteers with appropriate roles based on organizational needs and volunteer strengths
● Conduct volunteer orientation and ensure understanding of LCA’s mission, confidentiality standards, cultural expectations and technical training

Training and Support
● Plan and facilitate initial and ongoing trainings, including interpretation ethics, trauma-informed service, and cultural humility
● Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers, addressing scheduling, questions, and concerns
● Provide ongoing supervision and support, responding to challenges and escalating issues as needed

Program Coordination
● Serve as the primary liaison between volunteers, interns, and program staff to ensure clear communication, alignment of expectations, and program success.
● Collaborate with staff to determine volunteer roles needs across programs
● Schedule volunteers and ensure adequate coverage for services and events
● Track volunteer hours, assignments, and participation

Retention, Recognition, and Community Building
● Foster a welcoming, inclusive volunteer culture
● Implement volunteer recognition strategies such as appreciation events, acknowledgments, and regular communication
● Collect feedback from volunteers to improve engagement and retention

Administrative and Reporting Duties
● Creates and maintains Volunteer Handbook and Volunteer Job descriptions.
● Maintain accurate volunteer records and documentation
● Prepare reports on volunteer impact and hours for internal use and grant reporting
● Support organizational storytelling by highlighting volunteer contributions

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required
● Experience coordinating volunteers, programs, or community services
● Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
● Commitment to equity, immigrant justice, and culturally responsive service
● Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, community-focused environment
● Bilingual in Spanish and English

Preferred
● Experience working with immigrant or diverse communities
● Knowledge of volunteer management systems or databases

Working Conditions
● Some evening and weekend hours may be required for events and programs
● Primarily office and community-based work with regular interaction with volunteers and clients

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
● Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon’s driver’s license.
● Proof of valid automobile insurance.
